KO PRESENTS BOXING 2006

KO BOXING 2006, special issue magazine :  By Brian Zelley

It was published by the KO group founded by Stanley Weston, and the 2006 publisher was
Stuart M. Saks and the editor-in-chief Nigel Collins.  Published by London Publishing
Company.

"Mexican Fighters
A very interesting article by Willaim Dettloff  titled
"The 20 Greates Mexican Fighters Of All-Time"
*the 20 chosen by William in-order of appearance were:
Julio Cesar Chavez, Ruben Olivares, Miguel Canto, Carlos Zarate, Salvador Sanchez,
Vincente Saldivar, Ricardo Lopez, Kid Azteca, Jose Beccera, Humberto Gonzalez,
Baby Arizmendi, Pipino Cuevas, Chalky Wright, Juan Zurita, Carlos Palomino,
Jose Ramirez,Lupe Pintor, Daniel Zaragoza,  Rodolfo Gonzalez, Jesus Pimentael,.

*in the story about Zaragoza, there are references to bouts with boxers
Paul Bamle, Frankie Duarte and many others.

*For Vincente Saldivar, there was a two page phot of Saldivar and
Raule Rojas following the bout that took place on May 10, 1965
in Los Angeles.

A real Golden Oldie article was called:
"LISTON & LOUIS Unlikely Friends With Too Much In Common.
The author was Don Stradle.

"BATTLE of the LEGENDS"
some of the bouts were:
Boxers Bobby Chacon vs Wilfredo Gome, Marvin Hagler vs jake LaMotta,
Joe Frazier vs Larry Holmes,Jose Napoles vs Luis Rodriguez.                                                   Persons that were asked to pick a potental winner included:
Jack Obermayer, Cornelius Boza-Edwars and Grant Phillips
for the first fantasy bout, Teddy Brenner Al Certo and Sal Rappa for the
Hagler - LaMotta bout, Dave Anderson, jay Bright and Teddy Brenner
for Frazier - Holmes., and Angelo Dundee, Emile Griffith and hank Kaplan
for the Napoles - Rodriguez bout.

For the Napoles vs Rodriguea at their prime and best, I would pick Napoles.
Angelo as expected picked Luis, Emile picked Napoles, and Kaplan
picked Rodriquez by points )a perfect split-decision which would come as
no surprise.  But, we all know that when all is said and done that
LUIS RODRIGUEZ  is Angelo's pride and joy.

*There was plenty of stuff about the active boxer of the day but
it was JERMAIN TAYLOR that appeared on the cover of the magazine.

*Media Review:  Thumbs-up piece on the BoxRec internet site.
The review was done by Eric Raskin who is listed as a contributing
editor of the KO magazine in 2006.
