BOXING ILLUSTRATED, April 1970

"BOXING ILLUSTRATE, APRIL 1970" review: By Brian Zelley

This magazine was called a special "collector's issue", and with
a key story by Lew Eskin titled:  "Those Swinging '60's Saw
a Lot of Changes  in the World of Boxing" and the selection
of Emile Griffith as "Fighter of the Decade".  Concerning the
selection of Emile Griffith, I couldn't agree more as he was the
boxer that I picked as the top fighter of the Sizzling Sixties.

In his article, Lew selected Cassius Clay, Emile Griffith,
Eder Jofre, Flash Elorde, Carlos Ortiz and Dick Tiger
as stand outs in the past ten years.  Mention was also
made about Harold Johnson and Joe Brown.

The article included a listing of all the key moments
The first listed ittem was the January 22, 1960 event
that saw Sugar Ray Robinson lose to Paul Pender.
The last event listed was the December 29, 1969
signing of the fight contract between JOE FRAZIER
and JIMMY ELLIS.
